How to Prepare for Your Photoshoot

A great photoshoot starts long before the camera comes out. A little preparation goes a long way toward feeling relaxed, confident, and truly yourself in front of the lens.

Book with enough time to plan. Schedule your session at least 1–2 weeks in advance so there’s time to think through outfits, hair, and skincare without rushing.

Sleep and hydrate. The two days before your shoot matter more than the morning of. Good sleep reduces under-eye puffiness, and drinking plenty of water helps skin look smooth and healthy on camera.

Skip new skincare or beauty experiments. This isn’t the week to try a new retinol, facial, or spray tan. Stick to products your skin already knows and loves — the goal is calm, even skin, not surprises.

Think about your “why.” Are these photos for your family, your website, a special milestone, or just for you? Knowing the purpose helps shape wardrobe, mood, and locations during the planning conversation.

Trust the pre-shoot consultation. Every keigi.photo session includes a styling consultation beforehand — this is the time to ask questions, share references, and talk through anything that makes you nervous, from posing to specific angles you love or want to avoid.

Let go of “perfect.” The most beautiful portraits capture real expressions — a genuine laugh, a soft glance, a quiet moment between two people. Preparation is about feeling good, not performing.

On the day itself: eat something beforehand, arrive a few minutes early, and bring any small personal items (jewelry, a favorite scarf, a pet) that make the photos feel like you. Direction will be given throughout — you never need to know how to pose, only how to relax.
